Bikram Yoga is a
challenging series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises that are
designed to stretch, strengthen, and restore health to every part of
the body. Bikram’s beginning yoga class is designed for anyone that
wants to improve his or her physical health and mental well-being. The
Bikram Yoga practice is 90 minutes in duration and practiced in a 105
degree heated room, which helps to warm the body and allows for deeper
and safer stretching. The heat also prevents injuries and rids your
body of toxins while relieving stress and tension.
Bikram
Choudhury is the founder of the worldwide "Yoga College of India."
Bikram began yoga at the age of four under the direction of Bishnu
Ghosh. He continued his yoga and strengthened his practice. At the
age of 13 he won the National India Yoga Championship. At the age of
17 he had an injury to his knee during a weight lifting accident. He
was told he would never walk again. He went to Bishnu Ghosh’s school
and trained hard to heal his knee. In six months his knee was totally
recovered. Bishnu Ghosh asked Bikram to teach the world yoga. Bikram
opened several schools in India that were very successful; so he
traveled to the United States and opened his first studio in Beverly
Hills, California, in 1973. Now there are Bikram Yoga Schools all
around the world.
Bikram scientifically designed this
90-minute program to deliver total health through the balancing and
strengthening of every system in the body in order to promote wellness,
prevent injury, and limit the effects of aging.
